There's Something Different About This Yankees Team

I grew up spoiled. I'll admit it. I spent my adolescence watching the Yankees dominate baseball in the late 90's and continue to compete into the 2000's.  I've experienced many postseasons where the Yankees were expected to win. However, this was a year where nobody expected the Yankees to do much. Many preseason projections had them finishing below .500. My optimistic self hoped for a Wild Card push at the very least back in April. We've gotten that and so much more. And still it continues. The Yankees were able to make that Wild Card push. In fact they ran away with the Wild Card and even made a last gasp effort at the division title going into the last weekend of the season. The 2017 regular season was an unexpected, fun-filled ride with some ups and downs but mostly lot of ups. Ups that the Yankees were never expected to reach. Yet here we are on October 17 and the Yankees are still playing baseball. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Yankees weren't sup...

Judge's Prestige Continues to Grow

Not many things are bigger than you when you’re six foot seven but one thing has surpassed Aaron Judge’s Goliath stature. What I speak of is his prestige after last night’s home run derby. (I’ll refrain from calling it his legend this early in his career) It’s no surprise to anyone that Judge won the 2017 Home Run Derby last night in Miami but the manner in which he did so made his feat all the more impressive. Judge came into the competition as one of the favorites along with defending champion and hometown hero Giancarlo Stanton. Many expected him to face Stanton in a mouth watering final. However, unfortunate as it may be, it was a final that never ended up materializing. Judge’s teammate, Gary Sanchez, saw to that with an impressive first round performance of his own which saw Stanton vanquished 17-16. (I wonder if Logan Morrison still thinks Sanchez didn’t belong in the Derby? But I digress.) As impressive of a head-to-head match up as the Stanton-Sanchez showdown turned ou...

The Judge-ment Is In: Aaron Judge is More Than a One Trick Pony

New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge will leave you in awe with his power. Judge routinely smashes the ball to all parts of the ballpark both in batting practice and games. His 17 home runs currently lead the majors, and few of them have been cheap. When Judge hits one, the fans almost always get their money's worth. Enjoy watching Judge deposit baseballs into the seats of a ballpark near you this summer but don't let it distract you from the rest of his game. I say this because there is a lot more to his game than the long ball.  We got our first look at Judge in a Yankees uniform after last season's trade deadline and the results were underwhelming to say the least. Judge flashed some power with his four homers in 27 games but batted only .179 before ending his season on the DL. However, even more alarming than his paltry batting average was the fact that Judge struck out at a 44.2% rate. Judge simply looked over matched by big league pitching in many at bats.  Th...
